Clicker Garage Door
Openers
Defining A Clicker Garage Door Opener
You are, of course, familiar with
garage door openers. After all, they have been around
for almost one hundred years.
However, you may not be well educated when
it comes to a clicker garage door opener. What is it? How is it
used? How do you choose one?
So What Is a Clicker?
A clicker is actually a remote device that
allows you to open and close your garage doors. It works with
an opener receive, which would then be attached to your garage.
Both operate to a signal that they could understand.
Clickers have gone a long way. They have
been around almost the same time that garage door openers were
introduced into every home. The concept of it is very simple.
It offers security to those who want to keep their garage doors
locked at all times. Unless the clicker is pressed, which then
signals the door to open, then no intruder would be able to
open the door.
Here's the Problem
There's a huge issue on clickers, however.
You see, clickers are universal. This means that they can work
in almost any type of garage door openers. Moreover, the
frequency signals are almost the same. It's still easy for
someone to buy a clicker, use it in your garage door, and find
an access directly to your car and even into your home.
Manufacturers therefore had to offer
something more to their customers. They decided to add DIP
switches. These switches could allow home owners to change the
frequency signals of their clickers. They are normally found at
the circuit board.
There are a lot of switches to deal with,
which could be confusing and time-consuming. You also need to
add them to both the receiver and the clicker, such as in their
back or battery compartment. This way, there would be no one
else who could touch the switches. Yet there's still trouble.
The intruders or thieves could simply using radio scanning
devices to decipher the codes used.
The Best Solution So Far
Fortunately, technology has caught up, and
manufacturers are now able to devise a way of enhancing the
security features of the clicker. One of the best solutions was
the use of codes.
This means that rather than using mere
frequency signals, you're going to add PINs and other secret
digits that would automatically change every time you're going
to press the clicker. This system is called the rolling
codes.
In rolling or hopping codes, the combination
on the clicker would change, but that of the receiver doesn't.
What it does is to scan the possible combination of numbers
ahead. You can also program the clicker wirelessly, which means
it's very convenient for you to change codes on your own.
The design of clickers has also been
improved. Manufacturers added backlights, so you can see the
controls or buttons in the darkness. They are also made to be
waterproof. Even if they are drenched in rain or submerged in
water, they would still work. Lastly, clickers can work in
several brands.
